Abstract

The case of Agus Salim, a victim of hard water watering who received a large amount of donations, sparked controversy due to the alleged misuse of the funds. This study aims to evaluate this case through the perspective of business ethics, by highlighting aspects of transparency, accountability, and trust in fundraising management. Using a descriptive qualitative research approach from various sources, such as news and academic literature. The study identified significant violations of business ethics principles, including embezzlement of funds, violations of donor trust, and a lack of transparency in reports of the use of funds. The study contributes to the development of business ethics by explaining how violations in the management of philanthropic funds can undermine public trust and reduce the credibility of social media-based fundraising. From a practical perspective, the study offers recommendations to stakeholders, such as strengthening regulations, implementing independent audits, and improving transparency mechanisms to prevent misuse of funds. From a theoretical perspective, this study complements previous studies by highlighting the impact of ethical violations on the relationship between donors and recipients, while emphasizing the importance of open communication and accountability in fundraising. This research is expected to encourage the application of better business ethics principles in philanthropic governance, create a more transparent and trustworthy fundraising ecosystem, and ensure that public trust in social activities is maintained.
