Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of students' geometric thinking based on Van Hiele's theory in terms of students' learning motivation. Van Hiele's thinking level consists of 5 levels, namely level 1 (Visualization), level 2 (Analysis), level 3 (Informative Deduction), level 4 (Deduction), and level 5 (Rigor). However, in this study the researcher limited Van Hiele's level of thinking only to level 3 (Informal Deduction). The subjects of this study were students of class IX C MTs Azzaky which consisted of 3 people representing each group of learning motivation. This research is a type of qualitative descriptive research using data collection techniques in the form of observation, questionnaires, geometry tests, interviews, and documentation. Questionnaires are used to classify students' motivation. The geometry test is used to classify students' thinking levels according to Van Hiele's Theory. The results showed that the higher the students' learning motivation, the higher the students' geometric thinking level. Vice versa, the lower the student's motivation, the lower the level of students' geometric thinking.
