THE USE OF CODE MIXING AND CODE SWITCHING IN VIDEO “ CASE 001 : HEATHER DORNIDEN ” BY DEDDY CORBUZIER
Abstract
The present study examines the phenomenon of Code mixing and Code switching in the YouTube video entitled ‘CASE 001: Heather Dorniden’ by Deddy Corbuzier. The primary objective is to identify and analyse the types of code mixing and code switching used by Deddy Corbuzier in the video. In accordance with Muysken's theory, this research delineates the various forms of Code mixing, including Insertion, Alternation, and Congruent lexicalisation. Additionally, it elucidates the different types of code switching as by Poplack’s theory, namely Tag switching, Inter-sentential switching, and Intra-sentential switching. This research employs a qualitative descriptive methodology to elucidate the meaning of the phenomenon, with data collected through transcription and categorisation based on Code mixing and Code switching. The findings of this study demonstrate that Deddy Corbuzier employs Code mixing and Code switching to enhance the appeal of his communication, rendering it more dynamic and interactive for his audience. Theoretically, this research can serve as a point of reference for future researchers engaged in developing sociolinguistic theories pertaining to the phenomenon of Code mixing and Code switching. Practically, this research offers insight into the linguistic strategies employed by bilingual individuals such as Deddy Corbuzier in interacting with their audience. The findings of this study can be incorporated into the educational curriculum to facilitate students comprehension of the communication skills associated with bilingualism and language variation in the context of an ever-changing digital environment.
