THE ABSENCE OF MOTHER FIGURE FOUND IN DISNEY’S MOVIE

Abstract

Movie is a communication media that is audio visual in nature to convey a message to a group of people who gather in a certain place. (Effendy, 1986: 134). The problem formulation is, why there is no role for a mother in a Disney movie? The aim to be achieved in this study is to reveal the absence of a mother's role in Disney's movie production. The benefit of the results of this study is that it can increase knowledge and insight into characterizations in Disney movies and for other researchers to be used as a reference. The approach method used is a descriptive approach that is aimed at making a systematic, factual, and accurate description of the facts and characteristics of a particular population or area. The analysis is aimed to the movie itself as a unit composed of interlocking parts. The results obtained from this study are that mother figures in Disney movies were influenced by the theory of Freudian psychoanalysis in the theory of Electra Complex and Oedipus Complex.
